Homecoming 2009

The host Richland Community Club, Inc will celebrate the 100 anniversary of Homecoming on July 3,4, and 5, 2009.  This event originated in 1909 by an organization aptly known as the Richland Homecoming Association.  The week long celebration attracted 6,000 visitors, most coming by train via three railways available at that time.  It is said the attendance was generated from the fact that so many hadn't seen each other for thirty or forty years.

The success of the first Homecoming started the tradition of a celebration every five years. However, World War I interrupted the second planned celebration, and it wasn't held until 1919.  No Homecoming was held in 1944 due to the nation's involvement in World War II.

The Richland High School Alumni Association has rescheduled its annual banquet from the usual Memorial Day Weekend in May to coincide with the 2009 Homecoming.  Natives, graduates, and guests planning to attend either of these events won't be forced to choose because of scheduling conflicts.

We look forward to a fun and enjoyable Richland Homecoming 2009!
